Bluetooth Transfers and New Start Screen coming soon for Current Lumia phones

In the Nokia Conversations blog, they’ve published some good news for Lumia Phone owners out there. It looks like there’s a  new update coming soon for the current Lumia phones with some some cool features.

This would bump up the Operating System version from the current Windows Phone 7.5 to 7.8. Of course, we all know that the current Lumia devices won’t be getting the big Windows Phone 8 update, but the 7.8 update should give some existing users some features of the new Operating System.

Here’s the features which will roll out in the Windows Phone 7.8 update as mentioned in the Nokia Conversations blog post:

  • A new Start screen look and feel, familiar from Windows Phone 8, giving you a whole new look the moment you unlock your phone
  • Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone
  • Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email
  • Bluetooth file transfer to send media files via Bluetooth from your Lumia device to any other phone

Apart from this, the Nokia will will also bring Cinemagraph and updates to Smart Group Shot to the existing Lumia phones. The Phones which will get this update are the Nokia Lumia 900,800,710 and the 610. There’s no news of when the updates are going to hit devices, but as is the usual practise, it’ll roll out phases in different areas around the world.
