Here’s a leaked video of the Meego OS which was purportedly captured when someone was taking a survey on Mobile phones. The video shows the Nokia’s upcoming operating system for phones being run in a phone emulator software.
From what we see in the video – the User Interfaces resemble those of an Android Phone, especially in the contacts area. The Ovi Store interface looks so much better than the existing versions on the Symbian Platform.
The shortcuts to the Phone dialer, Contacts, Email and music at the bottom of the home screen seem better than the ones on the Android phones, where in most phones I have to hunt around in the application menu or desktop shortcuts to get to these apps.
So far MeeGo seems to be going in the right direction in terms of the User Interfaces. It’s success is going to be measured with the application eco-system which needs to get built around the new operating system. Nokia’s got it’s work cut out to get app developers to take a plunge with this new platform. We’ll have to wait and watch to see how that rolls out.
Take a look at the Meego OS video below and let us know what you think about the new OS. Is Nokia going in the right direction with MeeGo?
Edit: On the other hand, you may also want to read this article by Stefan Constantinescu, on how these videos could be actually be “made by pixel pushers as a goal, an ideal, of what the company wants to achieve”. As we said earlier, its a wait and watch game now.
