Nokia announces their cross platform mapping solution – HERE

Nokia has rebranded their location based service  Nokia Maps to Here, and are pushing the reach of their services to other non-Nokia platforms as well. Nokia describes their new platform as “the world’s first location cloud that delivers a location platform, location content and location apps across any screen and any operating system.”

What’s the the Mobile Web Version?

The HTML5 based service provides the basic map services as well as more advanced features like voice guidance (limited to journey on foot and not driving), local transport routes and more. You can also login with your Nokia or Facebook account and sync your favorite locations on multiple devices through their collections.

Nuff HTML5 Web, where’s Native Apps?

Nokia also mentioned in their blog post that an iOS app for ‘Here’ could soon be available on the iTunes App store (subject to Apple’s approval). An Android app could also be in the works. Apart from the Android app, Nokia has the Here Android APIs for their service, so other developers can also use these and build out mapping apps using Nokia’s Here services. They did create a reference Android app which showcases the features which could potentially be included in future android apps from others. Here’s that video:
