Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – The Return of the Phablet

Samsung Galaxy Note II like it’s predecessor has become a showstealer, being a bridge between the phone and a tablet. The phablet! According to a recent news item, more than 5 million Galaxy Note II’s have been sold till date. Yup it is indeed big – the phone comes with a 5.5 inch screen which makes it to look stunning. At the same time, do not be afraid that you will have to hold a big block near your ears when you have to make a call. The phone is actually slimmer than the original Galaxy Note.

The size of the phone is the most debated element. Some find the phone to be OK after they’ve played with it a little bit; some men and women had no problems in sliding the phone to their pant pockets and/or handbag/purse, respectively. But, some find the phone to be too large to handle with one hand, especially when one has to reach the other end of the screen. Nevertheless, the big screen is a winner. The super AMOLED screen makes the experience excellent for media, games and graphics. The phone also overcomes the most popular bluish tint problem that is common with AMOLED displays.

Build – Samsung Galaxy Note II is available in two colors – Marble white and Titanium Gray. A hard silver color bezel runs around the glossy plastic corners of the device. In fact the Note 2 has borrowed it’s styling from the Galaxy S III, making this look like the bigger brother. Even though the device is ‘large’ the slim form factor of the phone makes it feel smaller than it actually is when you hold it. In fact the Note 2 is larger than the original Note!

Processor and Internals –  The device has a 1.6 GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM and 16 to 64GB of internal memory (depending on the model you pick). You can add an additional of up to 64 GB of memory via a microSD slot. Due to the quad-core processor, switching between apps is smooth and swift; but the phone does lag behind when switching between the portrait and landscape views (this can however be locked if you don’t prefer the auto-rotate). The speedy processor also ensures that the apps and games you load on the device don’t lag.

Platform – The Galaxy Note 2 ships with Android Jelly Bean. Samsung has also added their TouchWiz interface on top of the Android layer. The Android Purists can always find things to niggle about this since it overrides some of the Android Jelly Bean interfaces, but the Touch Wiz should go well with most other Android users.

Stylus Pen – The phone comes with a more easy-to-use and handy stylus pen, which is redesigned from that of the original Note. Since it is not round and has squared off edges, the pen is easy to hold and helps keep away accidental presses and doesn’t slip off the hand. Even though the television ads show the S Pen working up it’s magic on the Note, a word of caution – it can be clunky at times and some of the features work well only with Samsung Apps. It’s a useful addition nevertheless for quick scribbles, annotations and notes on the fly.

Software – The camera software has many predefined shooting modes for efficient capture. One of the coolest features is the Best Face feature that lets you take multiple shots of group photos and the feature looks out for out-of-focus faces or faces that look away from the camera. The Best Face feature then combines the best faces (of individual persons) from the different shots to make a better photo. The camera is also able to quickly auto focus on moving objects and also changes orientation pretty fast. The front camera is 1.9 megapixels and helps with good quality video calls.

Battery backup –  The 3, 100 mAh battery can keep the phone up to 14 hrs of intense use (watching Youtube videos, streaming high quality songs etc), most users who end up getting the Note 2 is because of the battery life on this device – it just gones on and on, on a single charge.

Overall the phone excels in its performance, look and feel. I applaud  Samsung’s attempt to make Galaxy Note II a bridge between the phone & the tablet.

Does iPad-Mini minimize everything?

Did you hear the rumours? Apple is gearing up for the next big event.

Rumors are widespread in tech circles about the launch of iPad-Mini. It is expected that Apple will start sending invitations from October 10 for the upcoming iPad-Mini launch event. The event is likely to be held in the second half of October.

Probable Features of iPad-Mini

• It is revealed that the size of the iPad-mini will be 7.85”.
• It comes with the Aluminum casing (similar to that of iPad).
• It comes with a rear facing camera.
• Apple intends to prepare the iPad-mini as an alternative to Samsung Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7.
• It is expected that the price of iPad-mini will be less than iPad.

Even though Apple has not yet officially acknowledged the fact about the launch/release of mini iPad version, it is expected that the mini tablet will come with minimal features. iPad offers 9.7” screen and iPad-mini is likely to come with 7”+ screen. iPad is a versatile tablet. You can read books, listen to audio books, create presentations, create artwork, watch movies and browse the web. As there will be considerable trade-off, iPad-mini certainly comes with less horsepower. You should be able to read books, listen to music, watch movies and connect to internet through iPad-mini.

Domestic Uses of iPad-Mini

Typical iPad-Mini expectations are A5 processor, 32 GB internal storage and 512 MB RAM. Some of the domestic uses of iPad-Mini for a techie could be –
• It will have tools like Accelerometer and Gyroscope.
• The gadget targets home users.
• The gadget will be useful to read books, listen to music and watch movies.
• You can copy relevant files into iPad-mini through Wi-Fi or by connecting with your PC via cable.
• However, it may not have Magnetometer, GPS and 3G.

Even though Apple could offer less features through iPad-mini, the gadget may not be competitive in princing at least with the rumored cost of  around $299 or so. iPad Mini will be a useful aid to be adopted by students in place of textbooks. You can play games as well on iPad-Mini. Nevertheless, it will be a tough battle for Apple to compete with feature-rich gadgets presented by Google, Amazon and Barnes & Noble at much a much lower price-point.

As a matter of fact, Amazon has established the ecosystem by offering great tablet, Kindle Fire HD. The value added services, the decent display system and user-friendly features presented by Kindle Fire are awesome. Similarly, the opportunities for Nexus 7 and Nook are plenty. They are growing at a steady pace. It should be a tough task for Apple to convince users to go for iPad-mini even though you can use it on an airplane. Apple’s iPad-mini has prospects to attract customers as they will be able to take advantage of the simple and user-friendly features.

About iPad-Mini’s Launch

It is expected that Apple will announce the new iPad-mini in New York City in October, 2012. As per tech analysts, it is expected that iPad Mini will not completely steal the show created by the New iPad. As per rumors, Chinese manufacturers had received orders for the manufacturing of iPad-Mini. As per the information revealed by Taiwanese sources, the new iPad-Mini will be in the hands of customers before the Christmas season.

Let’s wait & watch. The rumored launch date is not too far!

iOS6 – A mixed bag from Apple

Apple refines the operating system at regular intervals. This is required to improve the performance of the operating system. The OS should be secure, quick to respond and feature-rich. But the iOS6 update seems to be a mixed bag so far.

Let us check some of the new features and enhancements –

Maps AppMaps application is completely overhauled in iOS6. But, it still remains a big let down. Compare it with Google Maps, you can very well spot the shortcomings. The app has all the basic mapping services including street views and directions (turn by turn voice guided navigation), but the users still appear to be frustrated. I sincerely recommend you to read through the numerous errors that Apple Maps has reported in the recent past. There also has been some recent public apologies issued by Apple with promises of improvements. Hope, the promises are delivered at the earliest.

Camera – The camera app now features a mode for people to take quick panorama pictures. This feature has been around in other platforms and Apple’s own through third party apps, this is the first time the function is present in the camera’s options. It makes taking panorama pictures very easy. Here’s an example of a panorama picture taken by Vinu on an iPhone running on iOS6.

Passbook – It is a new feature that lets you keep together all the shopping offers and entry tickets to various locations like airports, theaters and shopping malls. You will not pay through these passes but you will get access and you will be reminded of the expiry of various offers. It will take some time to implement the passbook processing feature by merchants. However, Apple has initiated dialogue and it is offering technical expertise so that Apple users will soon be using the smart way to perform smart operations.

Siri – Apple had attracted many new customers by featuring Siri for the first time through iOS5. iOS6 further enhances the Siri (voice based personal assistant). You can also access Siri on 3rd generation iPad and 5th generation iPod touch. The Siri version is mentioned as beta in iOS6 (as it is still in the phase where the features are being enhanced). The new version is quick to respond to various instructions and it is more intuitive. Now, Siri can provide scores of various sports, movie listings, show timings, reviews and trailers. It’s got the power to launch third party applications. The application can post updates on social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter. It can reserve your dinner in your favorite restaurant.

Do Not Disturb – This is a very useful feature presented by iOS6. Now, you can exercise more control on notifications and incoming voice calls. You can make silent an incoming call after ringing for a specific number of seconds. Notifications can be turned off automatically. You can also choose special settings.

VIP’s through Email – The email system is revamped allowing you to designate certain contacts as VIP’s. Regardless of the mail account you use, all the mails addressed by VIP’s will be flagged with a bright star and will be readily available for your attention in a separate folder. You can also customize the notification settings.

Safari Browser – The safari browser further enhances your browsing experience through the iPhone. The browser syncs with iCloud as well. The browser will give you faster and better performance than on iOS5, especially with the an easy way for you to share the websites you are visiting with your friends on Twitter and Facebook, thanks to the tight integration in iOS 6

Since Apple’s supporting iPhone 3GS upwards and iPad 2 upwards for the iOS6 upgrades, folks with the older devices have been given a boot with this new update. So people with the original first generation iPad and phones older than the 3GS have to upgrade if they want to get a feel of these new features.

Top 5 Options for Tablet Purchase

We are living in the age where tablets are gaining popularity. The drastic improvement in memory technologies and advancements in processing technologies have enabled the development of handheld computing devices, called tablets.

Let us check the top 5 tablets in terms of their performance –

Apple iPad 3 or The New iPad

Apple iPad is the third generation iPad. Apple iPad 3 offers a very high resolution display thanks to the innovative ‘Retina display’ system with a whopping 2048 x 1536 resolution. You can enjoy high definition movies and video games on the crystal clear display. Another strong feature of new Apple iPad (Apple simply calls iPad instead of iPad 3) is 4G connectivity, with the help of which, internet is accessible at amazing speeds. iPad comes with 9.7” LED backlit IPS LCD screen & is powered by 1GHz dual core Apple A5X processor, along-with an internal memory of 1GB. You can avail storage capacities of 16 or 32 or 64 GB depending on your budget. The tablet is enabled with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The camera’s image quality is rated 4 out of 5. Even though the gadget is bet heavier than its predecessor, it has all the possibilities to attract customers as well as pose challenge for competitors in the market.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 LTE

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 LTE offers attractive features to compete with top brands including Apple and Google. The tablet features HD display, Dolby sound system, dual band and dual antenna and 4G LTE connection. You can purchase the tablet in two storage capacities (either 32 GB or 64 GB). It lets you enjoy crystal clear video calls through Skype. Your kids will fall in love with Kindle Fire with a personalized interface.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 LTE gives you access to a large number of movies, television shows, games, magazines, books (PDF and audio) and music files. You can save a lot towards the carrier cost in the first year. It has fastest Wi-Fi and revolutionary 4G connectivity. The advantage of going with this tablet is the wealth of content which Amazon provides.

Google Nexus 7

Google Nexus 7 comes with high quality hardware that will give you long life. It comes with NFC support, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a large bundle of Google freebies. Since this is a Nexus device, you’ll be guaranteed OS updates from Google, which roll out so much more faster than on other devices.

The tablet signifies Google’s attempt to present the best in class Android powered gadget. Tera 3 quad core processor and high end specifications make Google Nexus 7 a great choice for tablet lovers at an affordable cost of $199 for the 8GB varient. If you’re the type who like carrying around your media collections, you may want to invest a little more for higher storage, since there’s absolutely no way to upgrade the memory on this device.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 is a very light and thin tablet. It comes with a very fine looking aluminium finish. You can enjoy the great display and long battery life.  We did review the older version of the Transformer here months back. You can enjoy games with Tera 3 processor. The advantage with this tablet is the docking station which doubles up as a physical keyboard and an additional battery.  With the keyboard dock, the tablet transforms itself into an ultrabook, which makes typing those long documents and emails so easy. The keyboard dock is not part of the sales package and has to be bought separately.

However, it doesn’t look to challenge the supremacy of the market biggies.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will enhance your creativity to the maximum. The most unique thing about this tab is it’s S-PEN stylus which would allow you to draw & write notes. It is also packed with exclusive quad core processor, latest Android’s Icre-cream sandwich platform.

The micro SD card slot always allows you options to add more storage. The wi-fi feature allows you to get connected to the web at any given moment, along-with multiscreen facility. It’s competitive pricing always is an add-on incentive vis-a-vis other tablets.

So, which one are you buying?

Can the Nokia Lumia 900 & Windows Phone catch up with Android and/or iOS?

The Nokia Lumia 900 – The Microsoft Windows Phone powered Smartphone is possibly Nokia’s (& Microsoft’s) big bet to push forward the platform and devices.  They, along with AT&T, have gone on an advertising blitz to really get the Lumia 900 up into the same space occupied by iOS and Android, both of which so far happen to be the dominant mobile platforms.

They started off with the Smartphone Beta-Test campaign, basically mocking issues that had affected the iPhone 4 and of-course, Android devices. Have a look at the video below.

They then went all out with the launch, shutting down Times Square in New York City for a performance by Nicki Minaj, with a huge setup. The setup was created by the CGI Team who had worked on i-Robot and used one of the world’s largest LED Displays.

Here’s a video of the event, courtesy Nokia Conversations:

The new phone was introduced exclusively on AT&T for $99.99. However, you can get the phone over at Amazon for just $49.99, with a new 2 year service agreement of course. If you are an existing customer of AT&T, you are exempted from $36 activation fee.

Coming to the specifications, Nokia Lumia 900 is a Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” device. It has 1.4 GHz processor, 16GB storage, 4.3 inch Clear Black AMOLED display and 512 MB RAM, has an 8MP Rear Camera and a Front Facing camera for Video calls and has AT&T’s flavour of 4G LTE connectivity. The global variant, which should launch soon, will probably be a non LTE device.

The event marks the biggest re-entry of Nokia into US market. It’s the “Halo” phone for Nokia & Microsoft. AT&T is also pushing the 900, with a little help from Nokia, and it will be the featured device in AT&T stores. Even though the Nokia Lumia 900 is priced less than its’ actual worth, it is a good marketing tactic to attract new customers as well as to consolidate the Windows Phone market. The important point to be noticed here is that the price tag of Lumia 900 should not be compared with its performance.

Now, as to whether this truly will be the glory device for Nokia and Microsoft depends on how consumers take to Windows Phone. It all depends on what you look for in a phone of course, and if you want to have a quick run through a Windows Phone device, have a look at our Nokia Lumia 710 review.  As of now, Android and iOS devices have an edge (depending on how you define it) not only in terms of features  but also in terms of the availability of so called “premier” applications.Interestingly, AT&T is also going to launch a new the  HTC Titan II with LTE capability and a massive 16MP camera, but at $199.99 (so you know which device is being pushed).  LTE networks offer much faster speeds than 3G networks, but usually at the cost of battery life, so that’s one thing that will be interesting to see; how does Windows Phone do in terms of battery life when you factor in LTE.

Whether all this will work, that has to be seen. Nokia, as a brand, is pretty much non-existent in the US right now. Worldwide they’ve taken a major beating and have suffered major losses in the smartphone market share; something that people may not have foreseen just a few years back when they pretty much OWNED that space.  Microsoft too has a lot of work to do, especially in terms of brand perception in the mobile space. It has to redraw its philosophy by offering value for money products (which the Lumia 900 should adress). It should also encourage developers to work on  innovative WP7 based applications (which it’s also working on). There is vast scope for high end smarphones in the international mobile market.

Smartphone usage is increasing every day. With the enormous levels of processing and memory capacities at the disposal of latest smarphones they have become versatile devices to accomplish the tasks that can be made on laptops. By focusing on customers’ needs and latest trends in the smartphone market, smartphone manufacturers will be able to attract new customers while retaining the old ones.

Fujitsu Arrow ES Water Proof Phone

You might have slipped your mobile in toilet or wash basin accidentally at least once in your lifetime. It is a great loss for anyone both financially and in other ways until an alternative is set up to restore contacts and important alerts, etc. Fujitsu brings an end to your worries. That means, now you will be able to work with your tablet or mobile even after its toilet obsession. Let us know more about these water-loving gadgets.

In recent years, much buzz is going about water-proof gadgets. It is really wonderful to watch the phone performing normally even after a full dip in a bowl of water. The live demonstration was performed by Fujitsu at CES, 2012. It is reported that Fujitsu will prove the capabilities of these phones first on its homeland, Japan before having any idea of shipping them to US. It is said that the phone can guarantee the performance for up to 5 feet dip in water or up to 30 minutes time in water. The phone, Fujitsu Arrows ES is a 6.7mm thin waterproof mobile which works on Android operating system. This is a super slim model from Fujitsu and also comes with watertight shell. The phone is slightly wider at the top edge where rear facing cameras are fitted.

The phone weighs approximately 100 grams. The features include 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, 512 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM and a resolution of 480×800 with a screen size of 4”. It also supports NFC and DLNA besides having the ability to connect through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Micro SD provision is also available. Another attraction is that it comes with a cable-free charging dock as part of its accessories. It is expected that the phone will be priced reasonably to attract customers who work in areas where their mobile phones are exposed to water and water vapor. Even though the new Fujitsu Arrows ES can be found in Japanese market, it may hit US market as well in the coming days. The company has already received clearance from FCC to enable its sales in US. This gives the hint that the company has ambitious plans to market in various parts of the globe.

Even though the idea behind launching waterproof phone might be ridiculed by some customers or tech analysts, it can be taken in a positive note. There are many reasons that support the requirement of a waterproof mobile phone. For example, when it is the case with kids, they are likely to mishandle the phone. Even though parents try to protect their mobiles by making them not go into their kids’ hands, one cannot rule out the possibility of landing their mobiles into them at one time or the other. There are also instances where adults carry mobiles in their hands and pockets and exposed to various places like water sports or rainy conditions. It is difficult to avoid such circumstances and only possibility is getting geared up with waterproof mobiles or not carrying mobiles at all to such exposed places. Even though Fujitsu demonstrates the phone’s capability to resist water up to 30 minutes, it is not prudent to check the same in off-factory and off-lab conditions. Customers get the advantage of carrying a mobile with them without having any fears to any location.

Panasonic’s Toughbook Inspired Robust Tablets: Toughpad A1 and B1

Panasonic’s ToughBook – Inspired Tablets are making their way by presenting robust and secured series of Android tablets. The 10.1″ ToughPad A1 and 7″ ToughPad B1 are expected to hit the market in spring 2012 and later part of 2012 respectively. Even though specs, pricing and launch dates are available for A1 it will take more time for B1 (to get a more realistic picture). The robust high security featured android tablets are creating much hype in tech circles. Even though Panasonic didn’t have enough share in tablets market, with the launch of new tablets it can fare well especially with the support likely to receive from business and government users.

ToughPad A1 offers Android 3.2 Honeycomb Operating System. The toughpad features 1.2 GHz dual-core Marvell processor, 1 GB RAM and RAM that can be extended up to 16 GB. With 5 MP rear end camera and 2 MP front shooter connecting to both LTE and WiMAX, A1 Toughpad is priced at $1299. Even though the pricing is not quite competitive, it appears that Panasonic might have clinched some robust business and military deals.

Compared to Apple, Panasonic might have targeted the tablets to a small segment of customers. Apple’s launch of tablets had brought a real change in the lives of millions of people around the world. It seems that Panasonic is following the path of Lenovo in selling androids to government and business users. Both A1 and B1 will deliver enterprise supported tools like app store, developer tools and additional technical support.

There is a requirement for security enhanced tablets in the business world. Panasonic promptly addresses this need by launching security rich tablet for commercial use. For example, Panasonic’s A1 gives security at hardware level also. It offers encrypted technologies both at hardware and software levels and dual factor authentication. Trusted boot, device management features and enhanced VPN makes A1 sought after tablet in the business segment. With enhanced security measures embedded in A1, the toughpad becomes FIPS 140-2 compliant for usage in Government circles and HIPAA ready for clearance in healthcare sector.

With the custom level of control that can be leveraged by administrators, greater control is achieved on the new tablets. Corporate can prefer these tablets for field level usage instead of going for consumer grade tablets which cannot offer business level of security. The day light viewable screen enables usage in the field, supply chain logistics and government departments. The stylus and active digitizer lets users help enter text in broad day light and capture signature from customers. The extended battery life and integrated cameras help you carry on the work which aptly fits for the entire day.

The device has also got good ratings for drops, water and dust protection. It can be used in a wide range of temperatures. Field staff productivity is optimized with enhanced reliable features. Besides robust features, the device also offers full set of accessories which makes it easy to connect with various devices it supports. If you want more of Panasonic’s new tablet news, you can follow the brand on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.

Can Apple’s iOS 5 take on the new tech wave?

Apple’s iOS 5 is in buzz in tech circles. This is the most up-to-date OS version from Apple that can be used in iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Padded with voluminous updates, the new OS comes with enhanced features. One of the most attractive features is the ability to sync data across Apple iOS 5 enabled devices. For example, if you are adding a new photo album on iPhone, the album can be accessed on iPod Touch and iPad. Thanks to the inherent iCloud support provided through iOS 5. The devices which are loaded with iOS 5 will be automatically subsumed for iCloud services.

For the first time ever, users of iPhone, iPod and iPad are made PC free as they are able to perform operations on these iOS 5 devices without depending on PC connection. iOS 5 has significantly delivered iPod from PC bondage. With the new iOS 5, first time setup is made easy. The setup will guide you with automatic prompting to choose location-based services, enable Wi-Fi, restoration of data from iCloud, setting up new Apple device afresh, option to activate iCloud, Find my iPhone and Diagnostics and Usage, etc. Now, it is even possible to have online backup of data through iCloud. Of course, it is not possible to contain the entire volume of your iPhone on the available 5GB free online space. You can restrict the applications that will utilize the free space, so that you will be able to manage the online space selectively for specific important applications. The iOS 5 software will be updated automatically if you opt for the same by changing the settings. You can name your iOS device without being connected to any PC.

Another noteworthy change can be found in elimination of annoying notifications. Presentation of banner notifications, the new notification center and other enhancements to lock screen notifications will help you work without being disturbed. You can also work smoothly without losing control on the screen that you are working on, even when you try to close the notification window. This is one of the bugs (traced in previous versions) fixed by Apple to bring more comfort to users. The new notification center includes two new widgets, one for weather and the other for stock news. These notifications will appear in the notification center if you opt for the same in the settings. These widgets can be arranged automatically in which case the notifications will appear based on time, the most recent notification topping the list.

The new iMessage gives you complete freedom to send unlimited messages among iOS 5 enabled devices. As the message utilizes 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity instead of traditional voice carriers’ service, you will be able to send unlimited messages absolutely free of cost. The new Twitter settings will help you upload pictures and content without adding the location-based information. If you want to attach the location-based information to the Tweet automatically, the settings have to be changed on your Twitter homepage. Besides other user-friendly changes in mailing, gaming and surfing environment, the new iOS 5 will take a long way in attracting and entertaining users like never before.

Have you had a ride on this new iOS 5?

Fujitsu has traditional strengths in the design of water resistant mobile phones, usage of finger print technology and making of mobile phones for old people. Toshiba is successful in making its presence in the smartphone market by supplying Microsoft windows based smartphones in Japan, Asia and Europe. Ever since the mobile phone business of Fujitsu and Toshiba was merged in October, 2010 they were swift in making moves to present a breed of smartphones to the world markets.

Androids have made their way in the world of smartphones. The latest smartphone announced by Fujitsu-Toshiba comes with waterproof body with Wimax and 13 mega pixel Camera. The smartphone named as Arrows Z comes with 2.3.5 Android OS, dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, 4.3” LCD display with 1280×720 resolution. Waterproof body, digital TV Tuner, e-wallet function and video recording at its highest accuracy with 13 MP Camera are other remarkable features of this smartphone. The ultra new model from Fujitsu-Toshiba can be connected to other digital gadgets through various ports including HDMI, micro SDHC and micro USB.

The phone weighs 131 grams with a sleek thickness of just 10.1 mm. Japan’s second biggest carrier KDDI plans to offer Arrows Z to its subscribers from the month of November, 2011. It may take few more months to launch the phone in other markets including US and Europe. Fujitsu Toshiba Arrows Z ISW11F is one of the 6 new models unveiled by KDDI for the coming winter season. The collaboration between Fujitsu and Toshiba has yielded a host of smartphones. The phone equipped with Gingerbread Android OS may challenge the current dominant player in the market, Softbank. The phone’s display features are closer to Samsung Galaxy S2 model HD LTE.

Having witnessed the brunt of sales in the domestic market and no scope for further expansion, Fujitsu has eyed the tremendous potential of smartphones in the world market. The joint venture brought down the number of mobile phone manufacturing companies from 10 to 6 in Japan. The current market is dominated by Nokia and Samsung which produce smartphones on large scale and cater to the worldwide market. The Japan based joint venture Fujitsu-Toshiba is all set to tap the global smartphone market.

It will be interesting to watch how the Arrows Z will resist the market in spite of its resistance to water! Will it float or sink to the market currents or current market? Let us know your thoughts.

Will Google Hold The Car Wheels?

Google Maps help you not only visit a location virtually but also lets you drive to the location physically. Google Car – the pet project from Google is on the anvil. Google has successfully conducted its initial field trials on driverless fully automated car. Last year it has tested the car on real roads. The trails were done on six Toyota and one Audi cars. As per Google’s information, except two accidents where in one accident, the automated car was hit at its rear end at the signal point, it was a safe milestone.

Google, Car, Android

These tests were conducted in all kinds of roads with different levels of traffic intensity including tough roads with steep curves. These cars roamed on bridges and lake sides also. These fully automated cars are occupied with Google engineers to control them in case of misrepresentation of data from the gadgets arranged inside, on the top and on front and back. This car can be mentioned as a science fiction turned into reality. As Google is able to map every city with all major and minor streets being mapped with a pin point precision to the location of your house, it is able to take the next challenge of running fully automated driverless car. Google claims that the development of this kind of cars is targeted to decrease the number of accidents caused on busy roads and to utilize the driving space on roads and energy at the optimum level.

We know that cruise control systems (to control brakes and turn the wheel) are common not only in all modern luxury cars but also in every new breed of cars rolled out from production line these days. The control system and software employed by Google is many more times incremental of this cruise control system. The tracking and control system deployed by Google has 4 radars. There are three radars on the front of the vehicle and one on the rear side. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) software gets its input from one video camera present inside the car, LIDAR sensor on top of the vehicle, 4 radar sensors and a sensor attached to the rear wheel. The sensor attached to the rear wheel will track the vehicle’s location on the map.

Google plans to develop its business by marketing the system and the extensive data to automobile corporate. In order to successfully launch on roads, it has to cross many technological hurdles and legal battles. As of now, there are laws to control vehicles which are manned by human drivers only. Either new bills are to be introduced or existing laws are to be modified to give room for fully automated cars on public roads. With the usage of automated cars, who will be held responsible in case of accident is to be sorted out. Google has achieved initial success by being able lobby with Nevada State. Nevada is the first state to allow driverless vehicles on road. First bill (amendment) allows licensing and testing of automated cars and second bill gives exemption to those who are sitting behind the wheel to send text messages from mobile.

Let us see how far Google driven car will take us by its safe and comfortable journey!
