Here’s an app from the AMP Lab at UC Berkley, which is a research project that aims to detect Energy Bugs. By Enery Bugs, they mean apps which needlessly consume your phone’s battery. This is now a collaborative effort, so if you install the Carat app on your phone, it helps the research project by detecting which apps on your phone burns through your battery life. Don’t expect flashy UIs from this app. It’s simple and to point information can help you get more juice out of your phone.
How it works
All you have to do is to install the app on your phone, and let it sit and detect your phone’s running conditions.
Carat gives you details about your phone and it’s average battery live. As you can see from the image, my phone hardly lasts a little more than Six hours on a single charge. Once you install the app, just let it run the in the background and give it a week to find out what apps are running on your phone. Carat uploads these stats to their servers to crunch through the numbers and come up with recommendations which are personalized for your phone.
Apart from the personalized recommendations, you can also check their Hog Reports in the app. This list of apps shows you which apps you have installed have a history of being a battery hog across your’s and other devices they have analysed. The Bug Report screen shows you which apps you have installed are specifically causing a battery drain on your phone. If you need more information on how to read these reports, check this link.
You can get more information about the app from their home page.
Here’s where you can download the app for your Android or iOS device.
