YouTube Mobile goes HTML5 with more features

Google has announced that they have released the new version of the Mobile YouTube site. The new site runs on HTML 5 and so supports both Android devices as well as the iPhone. The new version should work on any mobile device which can browse HTML5 capable sites. According to their blog post, here’s what you can do on the new version of the site:

  • Watch Videos online,  which was about the only thing you could do on the old version of the mobile site, with a much faster, touch friendly  interface
  • The ability to create playlists and add videos to your favorites, like or unlike the videos straight from the mobile interface
  • Search suggestions, when you’re searching for videos on the mobile version

Google also mentions that the mobile website would get newer features rolled out faster than the application, so that’s more reason to use the mobile website instead of a potentially outdated app. Pity we can’t download the videos to the phone like those unoffical apps do.

To check out the new features, head over to m.youtube.com from your mobile browser. Let us know your comments about the new look by posting your thoughts.
